How to show adopted, foster and step children on a genogram
Children hang from their parents’ partnership line. By default a child is shown as biological; tap the line between a child and their parents to show adoption, fostering, a step relationship or donor conception.
Works the same on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Step by step
- 1
Add the child
Select a parent and tap the sky-blue child button (Add Child) below them. The child is connected to that parent and their partner. Use Add Parents (top) and Add Sibling (lower right) the same way.
- 2
Tap the line from the child to the parents
The relationship panel opens on the parent-child line.
- 3
Choose the connection type
Under Connection Type, pick Biological, Adopted, Foster, Step, Surrogate, Sperm Donor or Egg Donor. The type is saved with the child and listed in the legend. Tap the selected type again to unset it.
Watch it
