How to import a family tree (GEDCOM) into a genogram
If the family is already in a family tree program such as Ancestry, export a GEDCOM (.ged) file from it and import it, instead of drawing everyone by hand. Importing is part of the Unlimited plan.
Works the same on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Step by step
- 1
Get a GEDCOM file
Export the tree from your family tree software as GEDCOM (.ged) and save it to Files or iCloud Drive.
- 2
Import it
On the home screen, tap the Import file card and choose Import GEDCOM. Inside a genogram, use the app menu → Import → Import GEDCOM…, which replaces what is on the canvas.
- 3
Tidy it up
Run Auto Arrange, then add the genogram detail a family tree doesn’t have: emotional lines, medical history and heritage.
