How to add religion to a genogram
Religion has its own section in each person’s details panel. It adds a small badge to the top-left of the symbol and a line of text under the name, and the legend explains each badge.
Works the same on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Step by step
- 1
Select the person
Open your genogram and tap the person (click on Mac). Their details panel opens: on the right on iPad and Mac, sliding up from the bottom on iPhone.
- 2
Open the Religion section
Tap Religion (the star icon). On iPhone, tap the Religion chip.
- 3
Choose the religion
Pick from Christian, Catholic, Orthodox, Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Spiritual, None or Other. Tap the selected one again to clear it.

- 4
Add detail or mark as non-practicing
Turn on Non-practicing for someone raised in a faith who no longer practices it: the badge gets a faded, dashed ring and “(non-practicing)” is added to the text. Use Detail for a denomination or a religion not on the list.
- 5
Check the Religion view
The badge and text show while the Religion view is on (it is on by default). Tap Views (the layers button in the toolbar on iPad and Mac, or the More tools menu (…) on iPhone) to turn it on or off.
