How to show location and immigration on a genogram
The Location section records where someone lives. Choosing a country puts a small flag on the person’s symbol, and the immigration marker draws the wavy line used in standard genogram notation for a family that migrated.
Works the same on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Step by step
- 1
Select the person
Open your genogram and tap the person (click on Mac). Their details panel opens: on the right on iPad and Mac, sliding up from the bottom on iPhone.
- 2
Open the Location section
Tap Location (the pin icon). On iPhone, tap the Location chip.
- 3
Choose the country
Pick a country from the Country menu, and add City and State if you like. A circular flag appears at the top-right of the symbol, and the Location view switches on so you can see it.

- 4
Mark immigration
Under Immigration Marker, choose Single (~) or Double (~~). The mark is drawn on the line to the person’s parents, or on a short line above them if their parents aren’t on the chart.

Tips
Birthplace is separate
Where someone was born goes in Vitals & Dates. The flag always comes from the Country in Location, so you can show where each person lives now.
